The Wyndham Championship is played annually in Greensboro, North Carolina. The tournament was founded in 1938 as the Greater Greensboro Open.

In 2007, the event was renamed the Wyndham Championship when Wyndham Hotels & Resorts took over as title sponsor.

Sam Snead set a PGA Tour record for his 8 wins at the event, as well as his 1965 victory at age 52, which made him the oldest player to win a PGA Tour event.

Previously the tournament was contested in April / May until a schedule change in 2003 which moved the tournament toward the end of the season. It subsequently moved from an autumn date to August and is now the last PGA Tour event before the Playoffs for the FedEx Cup.

As the last FedEx Cup event it is an important qualifying tournament for the post season playoffs. After this week only the Top 125 in earnings will be fully exempt for next season.

Course Overview

The Donald Ross designed course at Sedgefield Country Club serves as the venue for the Wyndham Championship.

At just over 7,100 yards distance off the tee around Sedgefield Country Club is pretty much irrelevant. Like most Donald Ross layouts accuracy and precise placement off the tee is important.

The course layout will suit the player who plots his way around with good course management and a premium on hitting greens in regulation.

2017 Wyndham Championship | Henrik Stenson

Winning Score -22 (258)

Henrik Stenson captured the Wyndham Championship in 2017 finishing one stroke ahead of Ollie Schniederjans. The tournament was a late addition by the Swede as he needed to reach 15 starts on the PGA Tour to keep his card for the 2017-18 season. Stenson carded a final round -6 (64) that included birdies on four of his final six holes.

Bad weather over the weekend resulted in Snedeker having to play 29 holes on Sunday.

Winning Score -22 (258)

Poston became the first player since Lee Trevino in 1974 to win a 72 hole stroke play event on Tour without a bogey.

“I probably haven’t had that many bogey-free rounds this year, to be able to do four in a row is pretty special, and finish it off with a 62 on Sunday is pretty awesome.”
